Abstract

This study examined the influence of watching English movies (X₁) and vocabulary mastery (X₂) on junior high school students’ speaking skills (Y) in two Islamic schools in Bogor. Using a quantitative correlational survey, data were collected from grade VIII students with validated instruments. Descriptive and multiple regression analyses revealed that both variables significantly affected speaking proficiency (sig. = 0.000, F=13.664). The regression model Y = 59.328 + 0.064X₁ + 0.102X₂ explained 25.7% of the variance, suggesting other external factors also play a role. Individually, watching English movies (sig. = 0.012, t = 2.574) improved students’ ability by exposing them to authentic language, phrases, and cultural nuances. Vocabulary mastery (sig. = 0.001, t = 3.520) also had a significant positive effect, enabling learners to express ideas more accurately and fluently.
