Analysis of Assessment Reasoning Mathematics Ability and Curiosity Character Secondary Students’ Through Winstep Application

Abstract: The problem of students’ low mathematical reasoning skills is still a common problem in learning mathematics, many students find it difficult to analyze information and solve non-routine problems. The problem is further exacerbated by a limited curiosity, as evidenced by students’ lack of interest in exploring mathematical concepts on their own. Therefore, there is a strong need for valid and reliable assessment tools to measure such cognitive and affective aspects. So, this study investigated the mathematical reasoning ability of junior high school students and mapped their curiosity character. The design of this study was a quantitative survey involving 269 students in the eighth and ninth grades from three schools in Jakarta and Bekasi. Data collection was carried out using a mathematical reasoning ability test of 8 items based on NCTM standards and a curiosity questionnaire of 16 items and analyzed using the Rasch Model. The results confirmed strong psychometric properties for both instruments, with item reliability of 0.99 and unidimensionality greater than 85%, indicating that they are stable, fair, and generalizable to educational assessment.
